Day 1 - April 29th:

3:15pm - meet at Ray Guidetti's home at 308 E. 7th Ave. North Wildwood, NJ 08260

3:30 - 5:00pm - Workshop introduction at Ray Guidetti's home, you should bring your photography gear for photographing shorebirds on the beach. We will head directly to the beach after this session.

5:30 - 8:00pm - photographing shorebirds at Stone Harbor Point beach. We will meet at the parking lot at the southern end of Stone Harbor off 2nd avenue past 122nd st. Stone Harbor, NJ 08247  Your camera and any lenses you want to use will be required. We will be laying in the sand, sometimes wet sand, sometimes laying in the shallow water so be prepared to get wet and messy.  Lots of laying prone so if you have a right angle viewfinder attachment it is recommended for this outing since it will help save your neck after a couple of hours laying on the ground.

Day 2 - April 30th:

5:30 - 8:30am - An early start on the beach to be set up to photograph Red Knots and other shorebirds before sunrise at Reeds Beach at 300 Beach Ave, Cape May Court House, NJ 0821. We will be laying prone and staying still for the duration. The sand is usually dry and soft so it's usually comfortable to lay for a while.  A right angle viewfinder attachment is again recommended to save your neck. If you tire of laying in the sand you will have the option of slowly crawling away to take a break. As long as the birds are cooperative we will get some great portraits in the early morning light then probably try for birds in flight shots as the large flocks of shorebirds move around the area.

10:30 - 2:30pm - We will meet meet at Ray Guidetti's home at 308 E. 7th Ave. North Wildwood, NJ 08260 to discuss post processing as well as review and critique of the photos you have taken so far.  I will give a presentation showing how to use post processing to make your photos really stand out using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.  After the presentation we'll begin reviewing your photos as well as trying to post process some of them to a final image.  If you have a laptop to bring with you that would be ideal.  There will be a table and chairs setup with enough space for your laptop. Lunch will be provided in the room while we talk and edit.

5:00 - 8:00pm - For the second evening session we'll concentrate on the Yellow Warblers and Common Yellowthroats that inhabit the low scrub along the beach at Stone Harbor Point beach. We will meet at the parking lot at the southern end of Stone Harbor off 2nd avenue past 122nd st. Stone Harbor, NJ 08247A monopod or tripod is recommended for this outing.  We will be rather comfortable as we stand along a well groomed dirt road overlooking the scrub brush.  I will be using minimal bird call playback to entice the birds into the open and nearby.  I will review proper use of calls for songbirds and we will work on creative compositions of the tiny birds among the brush which is not easy. The longest lens you have is suggested for this outing.

Day 3 - May 1st:

6:00 - 9:30am - We will start the morning at Atlantic County Park. We will meet at the first parking lot at the nature center at 109 NJ-50, Mays Landing, NJ 08330 just off of Route 50. From there we will drive into the park to find good habitat for Pine Warblers as well as Yellow-throated Warblers.  While not likely we will also try to find Prothonotary, and Hooded Warblers but it may be a bit early in the season for them to be around in good numbers.  I will be using minimal bird call playback to bring the birds into the open where we can see and photograph them.  If we are lucky it will be overcast and we'll be able to shoot for a long time in the morning, if it's sunny we will seek out shade to work with the beautiful songbirds.

9:30 - 10:30am - We will wrap up so everyone has time to get back and check out of their hotels.

10:30 - 1:00 -  We will all head to a restaurant where lunch is on me, we'll review photos from the past days and I'll offer critique as well as answer any questions.

5:00 - 8:00pm - This will be the last outing of the workshop and we'll most likely head back to Stone Harbor Point but the group will discuss what they would most like to do based on our past outings.  Hopefully we will have a sunny evening and we can enjoy sunset on the beach with great light, great birds and great company!
