Florida Park and Wading Bird Rookery - A Day Outing

Photographed on January 30, 2018

During my annual visit to Florida I quickly learned that a neighborhood park that my wife and I walked at many times a day was going to present some great wading bird photography.  During one of our walks I brought my lightweight 300mm + 1.4x TC setup and while she did a little training with our dog  I noticed group of waders and snuck down to the water's edge.  While laying there photographing egrets and ibis a single Wood Stork dropped in and started feeding right in front of me.  It was awesome being so close to this ancient looking bird while it paid no attention to me.  I photographed it like crazy as well as some of the cooperative White Ibis with their brilliant blue eye.

Later that evening my sister and I made a drive out to a local rookery to photograph all the wading birds that nest there, mainly the Roseate Spoonbills. We were not disappointed as there was almost non-stop action and the Spoonbills were plentiful.

Nature photography has become a very passionate hobby of mine and whenever I get a chance I love to get outside and enjoy being outdoors. I am also the co-owner of KGM Expressions, a wedding and portrait photography business, with my wife Kim. This is how we make our living and I love that we get to do that together.
